Today we planned to take a bus from Praiano over to Amalfi, then another bus to Bomerano where would start our hike to Positano. We packed up early had breakfast and got up to the bus by 9AM. We waited for atleast an hour for the 9:15am bus but it never came. A bus did come by around 10, but it was full and passed us by again. Screwed by SITA again! We decided to get on the next bus regardless of its direction. Finally a bus came heading to Positano, and we got on it. We would then stash our packs at the hotel and do a day hike in the opposite direction.
We got of the bus at the first stop in Positano, which ended up being the farthest point from our hotel. Positano is situated on a cut between two hillsides/cliffs, so to get from one side to the other you have to walk all the way down to bottom and back up the other side, which is what we did. Google Maps listed our hotel, Domina Royal Home, totally wrong too. We finally found it which was higher up that Google said. Fortunately they had our room ready so we could unpack our packs and load up the day pack.
We then headed up the street to the bus stop which was directly above our hotel. If we would have gone to the next stop on the SITA bus we would have only had 1 flight of stairs to go down. We the got tickets for the internal Positano bus that would take us up to the town of Nocelle which is were we would start our hike. We chopped off a bunch of time climbing out of Positano, which is supposed to be around 1500 steps up.
We had a quick lunch in Nocelle and started on the Path of the Gods, better known as ‘Santiero degli Dei’. The hike was great hugging the cliffs and mountainside with amazing views of the Med and the towns below. We made it to Bomerano in less than 2 hours, even with me taking pictures, so we decided to hike it back to Nocelle and take the Positano bus back to town. This way we wold not have to deal with SITA again.
We took a lower route on part of the way back so we weren’t totally seeing the same scenery again. We made it back to Nocelle in around 1:30. We ran into a Swiss couple that didn’t know how to get back so we told them were the bus stops. We missed a turn and ended up taking a path that took us lower Down the road. We saw the little bus coming upnthenhill So we hightailed it to the stop. The finally came and we hopped on. The bus driver ended up hitting another car, twice, on the narrow road down the mountain. It was rather entertaining actually. The second time it seemed like he just rammed the other car. He yelled something in Italian to the other driver and that was it. No exchange of insurance numbers or anything.
We were pretty tired that night, but had a good dinner at Cafe Positano and then hit the hay. Tomorrow no real plans, maybe just enjoy Positano a bit.
