After just finishing my “long run” this week, I am heading into the final taper week before Ironman Miami 70.3. It feels like I have been tapering for the last month with the IM Pocono fiasco and being away for a photography workshop. I am feeling pretty fresh this week, but not quite as good as I was the weeks before Pocono. Even still I feel ready to perform well at this distance.
I had my bike packed and shipped this past week which has been probably the most expensive part of this little excursion. Having my bike packed by the local bike shop was ~$50 and shipping it was ~$150 each way! The race has a bike shop that provides a transport service that you can ship the bike to and they will unpack, put together, tune it up and have it ready for the race for you which is another $160. Cha-ching! They also will repack your bike and ship it home after the race for you. So all-in-all it is costing ~$500 just to ship my bike back-and-forth. That is more than my airfare to ship me down and back…what it wrong with that picture. Note to self…only do races you can drive to and/or take a bike mechanic class.
This week should be a bit hectic getting packed and ready to head down there. I plotted the bike course on MayMyRide so I could do a 3D fly-over. Looks flatter than bulls ass! Looking forward to hammering a bit on the bike.
