Some photos of the local aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Managed to escape without any issues and power & internet still on. Some homes around are without power. I got lucky on this one. Rough night of sleeping with major winds/gusts and occasional blue flashes from transformers exploding. Temperatures dropping into 40’s which could be rough for those without power.
Nov 3, 2012 Update – Headed over to Rodale Fitness Park this afternoon for a short run. Many of the tall timbers that shade the back half of the track were snapped off. Pretty sad scene.
It’s April and the "Bluebells"(Grape Hyacinth) are blooming in Lockridge Furnace Park in Alburtis, PA. Along with that comes many parents and photographers selfishly instructing their children trample these little flowers that carpet the field, destroying the scene for those who come later. The field has numerous little pathways through that allow you to walk amidst the flowers without squashing them to the ground. But no, that is not good enough for these ignorant folks. Instead they spread blankets and plant their fat rear ends directly on these fragile little flowers just to stuff their face for a spring time picnic. Apparently the picnic tables are adequate to support them. It’s really sad how selfish people can be these days and the sad part is that they are imparting this behavior on their innocent offspring. Perhaps these are the same people that are unable to read the "ATTENTION DOG OWNERS" sign that instructs them that all dogs must be leashed in the park, but yet they still let their uncontrollable dogs run rampant.
So if you are ever in the park in the Spring, try to think of the others that haven’t seen the Bluebells yet, and leave them standing.
During the past couple weeks contractors have been replacing the sidewalks on the east side of Main Street in Alburtis. Today I noticed how nice it is really starting to look. The have a nice brick paver border with new trees planted every so many feet. I think it will look really nice.
The question in my mind is, are they going to do the same thing to the west side of the street? The west side is a bit run down with what I would assume is low cost housing. If they upgrade the sidewalk on that side without upgrading the houses on that side it will be like putting “lipstick on a pig.” It will be curious to see how that progresses.
I am tired of searching all over for my 5k Results from last year, so I am adding an entry here for them.
